If you’ve been looking for a good budget smartphone, your options have just been expanded by Xiaomi Malaysia as the company is officially bringing in the Redmi 3S to our shores. Here are the details.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 3S was launched as the replacement to the original Redmi 3. It continues Xiaomi’s latest trend of building budget smartphones that are encased in a metal unibody for that extra premium touch.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Redmi 3S will feature a 5″ 720p display on the front with an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor running on the inside. Besides that, the Redmi 3S will come with two memory configurations — the lower spec model featuring 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, while the higher spec variant comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Storage is also expandable via a microSD card for up to an additional 128GB of storage.

In the camera department, the smartphone will come with a 13-megapixel primary shooter at the back with an f/2.0 aperture lens while selfies are handled by a 5-megapixel snapper at the front.

What’s more, the Redmi 3S will also come with a large 4,100 mAh battery that should mean a pretty amazing battery life. Connectivity options for the dual-SIM device include 4G LTE with FDD and TD LTE bands alongside VoLTE support. Xiaomi has also included a fingerprint scanner at the back of the Redmi 3S for an added layer of biometric security.

UPDATE:: The fingerprint scanner is available on both 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage options.

Earlier, we took an educated guess that the Redmi 3S would be priced below RM600 when it officially arrived in Malaysia. Unfortunately, we were only half right. Here are the pricing options:

Redmi 3S — 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with fingerprint scanner — RM599
Redmi 3S — 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with fingerprint scanner — RM699

This smartphone will be available for purchase on the 24th of September from Xiaomi Malaysia’s official distributors and on Lazada Malaysia. However, you can pre-order the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant from Lazada here, starting the 17th of September.

If this 5-inch device isn’t large enough for you, Xiaomi Malaysia is also having a Malaysia Day Special sale for the Redmi Note 3 where you can pick one up for just RM699 through their authorised dealers. Though, keep in mind that this is only for the low spec 2GB RAM and 16GB storage variant.

What do you guys think of the Redmi 3S? Let us know in the comments below.
