Charge your laptop, smartphone or tablet with HP’s new backpack

If you’re the type of person that always needs to look for a socket to charge up at, HP has the backpack for you. This is their new Powerup Backpack and it can charge your phone, your tablet and even your laptop.

Thanks to a 22,400 mAh battery in the front pocket, the  HP Powerup Backpack is basically a large powerbank sleeve that you can keep stuff in. With that much juice, it will be able to fully charge your laptop once, your tablet three times or your smartphone 10 times. You can even charge all three at the same time, choosing which device charges first with power priority. To charge the backpack up, it’s also got a handy-dandy power cable that folds into the Powerup Backpack’s side pocket.

Packing that much battery power can be a little dangerous especially considering how hot our devices can get when charging, but HP has thought about that too. As a result, the Powerup Backpack features ventilated pockets with a built-in heat sensor to monitor and manage temperatures so things don’t get too toasty.

However, lugging around a massive battery may cause some problems when you’re travelling abroad. While the bag meets TSA and FAA carry-on and check-in regulations, sitting at 84 watt-hours, different countries have different rules when it comes to this sort of thing.

Then there’s also the issue of weight. A 22,400 mAh battery probably won’t be light, but at least HP saysthat their bag is made up of durable straps and a heavy-duty canvas exterior. It’ll also be able to resist wet weather and even comes with its own raincoat for when things get really wet. Then again, it should be durable since the Powerup Backpack costs USD199.99 (about RM809).

Still, I think this is a pretty cool backpack for the average power user because it means that you won’t have to fight with everyone else over that one power socket in Starbucks. It’s also quite a far cry from what Samsung calls a backpack with battery.

HP’s Powerup Backpack will be released on the 1st of October 2016 but it is already available for pre-order on Amazon. Unfortunately, it doesn’t ship to Malaysia so you’ll have to get creative if you want one of these really badly.
