Microsoft has just made Surfacephone.com a real thing

We’re now playing with the idea that Redmond is working on a smartphone and it’ll be a “Surface” brand device. Or at least, that’s what Microsoft registering the domain name would imply. Give it a go, head to the URL here and see where you end up.

This could be good and bad for the Lumia line. It’s either both of them will live like happy neighbours or one will get kicked off the street. There no point in leaning to one side yet since we haven’t seen what the Surface team can do on a smartphone.

In retrospect, this could just mean Microsoft wants to pre-book the domain just in case they decide to bring a Surface Phone to live.

But since Windows 10 (Mobile) updates have been delayed and lackluster response to the Lumia 950 and 950 XL has bogged them down, a Surface Phone would be a really good idea – just make sure the software is ready before releasing it. Okay, Microsoft?

After reviewing the Surface Pro 4 we started to believe what Microsoft could do again and we’re still eagerly waiting for the Surface Book to arrive locally. Lumias have fallen off the truck and maybe the only that will change is through the Surface line.

VentureBeat has done some digging through Whoisology and found that the WHOIS database dates the domain acquisition sometime between August and December of 2014 – easily meaning that we’ve gone a year and a half without any substantial proof that the Surface Phone will ever exist – we’re hopeful, though.

Others, figure that Panos Panay and his team will start putting out the Surface Phones by the end of this year. If that’s true, we can’t wait! Show us what you got Microsoft.
