After announcing the Galaxy A8 in Malaysia, Samsung has introduced 2 new sub-RM1,000 smart phones – the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. Priced at RM799 and RM999 respectively, the Galaxy J5 and J7 is probably the first Samsung smart phones to come fitted with a front facing flash for better illuminated selfies.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy J5 gets a 5″ Super AMOLED HD 720p display and it runs on a Quad-Core 1.2GHz processor with 1.5GB of RAM. On-board it gets 8GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD up to 128GB.

The Galaxy J7 has a larger 5.5″ HD 720p screen and it runs on a higher 1.5GHz Octa-Core processor (likely Snapdragon 615) with 1.5GB of RAM. There’s no mention of its storage on its Malaysian product page, but it is likely to offer 16GB which is also expandable.

Both models get a 13MP main camera with a larger f/1.9 aperture size, while the front gets a 5MP camera that comes with its own assisted LED flash. To take photos immediately, you can double press on the home button to launch the camera app even from sleep mode. On the software front, the camera app gets the usual features including wide selfie mode and beautify features for prettier looking selfies.

For all your connectivity needs, the Galaxy J5 and J7 offers dual-SIM support with 4G LTE. Out of the box, both runs on Android and keeping the lights on is a 2,600mAh battery for the J5 and a larger 3,000mAh battery for the J7. They are available now at all Samsung outlets nationwide.
