Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition for the S6 has finally arrived at RM799

If you own Galaxy S6 or S6 edge, you can now immerse yourself in virtual reality with the newly arrived Gear VR. Powered by Oculus, the Gear VR that’s designed for the S6 is priced at RM799 and it will be available at Samsung Experience Stores located in KL, Selangor, Penang and Johor.

With a Galaxy S6/S6 edge plugged in, the Gear VR offers a new gaming experience with a variety of content offered from the Oclus Store. Apart from games, you can view 360 degree photos, videos and special experiences including performances by Cirque du Soleil. The Gear VR comes with an accelerator, gyro meter and proximity sensor built in and it connects to your S6/S6 edge via its microUSB port. If you’re wearing glasses, there’s an adjustable focus dial at the top but it only caters up to a certain degree.

Compared to the first generation Gear VR that was designed for the Note 4, this new version is 15% smaller which makes it more comfortable to wear. For a prolonged usage, there’s a micro USB port at the bottom which allows you to power and charge both Gear VR and your S6 continuously. To prevent fogging on the lens, there’s even an integrated cooling fan on the unit.

The Gear VR only comes in white and it is adjustable with its elastic strap. On the right side, there’s a touchpad with a little stub in the middle to mark its centre point. To navigate around, you can touch on the pad and you can make a selection by tapping on the centre. There’s a dedicated back button at the top to return to home at anytime. By default, the sound comes from the external loud speakers of the S6 but you can hook up a pair of headphones for a better experience. You can use the Gear VR on its own but we reckon it is best enjoyed with a wireless game pad.

Want to experience the Gear VR yourself? You can check it out at the main entrance of Pavilion KL from today, 10th July until 12th July, between 12PM to 9PM. You can also stand a chance to win free movie tickets by taking a shot at their Gear VR challenges. Samsung will also bring the Gear VR experience to Sunway Pyramid at the Blue Zone on 25th-26th July.
