Ahead of its OnePlus 2 launch that’s going be held in Virtual Reality, the OnePlus team just had an interesting AMAA (Ask me Almost Anything) session on reddit. A couple of interesting things have been mentioned while there was a let down specifically on their fingerprint feature.

When asked about its screen size, OnePlus had responded with a picture above where a OnePlus One unit is stacked over its upcoming OnePlus 2. Without going to specifics, either OnePlus has managed to trim its bezels or they could be opting for a slightly smaller screen size that would pack higher pixel density. What’s clear is that the 2 will be smaller, making it easier to hold than its current model that’s loosely based on the OPPO Find 7.

In terms of battery, the OnePlus 2 will pack 10% more with a 3,300mAh capacity unit. This is almost a 10% increase from its current 3,100mAh unit on the OnePlus One. The camera is said to be improved with a couple of new things that will set it apart from others. For those who are still wondering, the OnePlus One will still continue to sell alongside the OnePlus 2 once it goes on sale.

With regards to its fingerprint feature, OnePlus had earlier teased that it will carry the most advanced fingerprint scanner in the market. With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor on board, many would anticipate OnePlus to utilise its new Sense ID, which recognises your fingerprint in 3D instead of the usual optical scanner. Unfortunately OnePlus has confirmed that it will be using a physical fingerprint sensor, and not Qualcomm’s Sense ID.

The launch is happening on 27th July (28th July 10AM Malaysia) and this is the first time a smart phone is being launched worldwide in Virtual Reality. If you don’t have the VR Box, don’t fret as OnePlus will be releasing their launch app which caters for both VR and non-VR users. Just to recap what we know so far, the OnePlus 2 will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor that’s clocked at a lower 1.8GHz speed and it will be mated to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. It also gets a reversible USB Type C port and pricing is said to be between US$322-US$450 (about RM1,230-RM1,700).
