UK based Blocks Wearables is in the process of making the world’s first modular wearable that it has named Blocks, and is getting some help from Qualcomm to produce it’s innards. The prototypes were shown off earlier this year at CES Las Vegas and they are confirmed to be running on a Snapdragon 400 SoC.

The key selling point of the smartwatch is that it’s very modular, like the Project Ara. You will be able to customise it as you see fit and the strap of the watch contain blocks that have swappable component sections which is how you will be able to mix and match.

So if you want to add additional things like a GPS or a heart-rate monitor sensor, additional batteries or maybe even 4G LTE, you could just yank out a link and replace it with one you need. Even the smartwatch’s face can be swapped out from a square one to a round one if you so like.

Interestingly, the device will be running on Android Lollipop instead of Android Wear and this will allow it to be compatible with both iOS and Android devices respectively.

The watch planned to be produced via a crowd-funded campaign that’s set to emerge sometime within the next few months.
