Snake is making a return for touchscreen devices

We’re sure most people still remember the old glory days of playing Snake on their Nokia phones, in all it’s monochrome glory. Those days are long behind us, the times when you were stuck with whatever software was on your feature phone, and almost always there would be Snake.

Now the game is making a comeback for touchscreen phones thanks to Nokia engineer Taneli Armanto who was originally responsible for putting the game on the Nokia 6110 and developer Rumilus Design for a fresh take on good ol’ Snake.

The game has been aptly named “Snake Rewind” both as a revisiting to classic Snake as well as one of the game’s mechanics that lets you “rewind” if you happen to Game Over. Graphics are quite minimalistic but sports a lot of special effects that are more commonplace in today’s games. It also looks like there will be a healthy mix of old and new features, with missions you can complete in the game as well as visual modes that imitate Snake from past and present, so if you fancy playing Snake on a Cathode Tube screen or exactly the way it was on the Nokia 6110 you can do so.can do just that.

No news yet on how much the game is going to be priced, but it looks like it might be a freemium game because you seem to be able to purchase rewinds. Snake REwind is expected to crop up on Windows Phone, Android and iOS app stores on 14th May.

In the meantime, check out the game trailer below.
