WhatsApp has been working on having Voice Calls on its instant messaging platform. Now it appears that the voice call service up and running but it is activated by invitation only.
The latest feature to hit WhatsApp was discovered by Reddit user pradnesh07. According to him, you’ll need to be running on a newer WhatsApp Android app version 2.11.508 which isn’t available on the Google Play Store right now. However you can download it as an APK file.
By default, the voice call feature is hidden and you’ll need to receive at least one call to have it activated permanently. If you don’t have anyone with voice calling feature yet, there is a workaround but this requires a root device and running a line of code in terminal.
At the moment, WhatsApp hasn’t made any official announcement yet and it is likely to be open for closed internal testing right now.
