Samsung Malaysia will be launching its Galaxy A series this coming Thusday, 8th January 2015. Ahead of its local launch event, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 are said to be priced at RM899 and RM1,199 respectively.

A quick check at Lelong reveals that some dealers have started selling the new Galaxy A smart phones that claimed to be official Samsung Malaysia stocks. We’ve spotted a Galaxy A3 being offered as low as RM799 and a Galaxy A5 from RM1,069.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 are running on a newer 1.2GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 processor and both models support 4G LTE. The Galaxy A5 is the higher spec of the two with a 5″ HD 720p Super AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP + 5MP camera and a 2,300mAh battery. It weighs 123 grams and maintains the same thickness of 6.7mm as the Galaxy Alpha.

Meanwhile the Galaxy A3 is a notch below with a smaller 4.5″ display that pushes a qHD (960×540) resolution and interestingly it is listed to have 1.5GB of RAM instead of just 1GB when it was announced a few months ago. Like the Galaxy A5, it also gets 16GB of storage which can be expanded via microSD. The back camera features a lower 8MP unit while the front still maintains a selfie-happy 5MP shooter. Packing a slightly lower capacity 1,900mAh battery, the Galaxy A3 is lighter than the Galaxy A5 at 110.3 grams but it’s slightly thicker at 6.9mm.

Thanks Charles for the heads up!
