HTC is trying to make themselves more appealing to the affordable segment and the newer Desire 620 and Desire 820 appears to be coming soon to Malaysia. Both models were spotted by our eagle-eyed reader on our local SIRIM certification database. The Desire 820 which was announced during IFA 2014 is one of the first 64-bit Octa-Core smart phone to use Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 615 processor. Going down the price bracket is the Desire 620 which could be competitively priced to go head on against its Chinese alternatives.
The Desire 820 is a notch below the recently announced Desire EYE with a 1.5GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM. However in terms of display, it gets a bigger 5.5″ HD 720p screen that’s similar sized as its current Desire 816. On-board it gets a larger 16GB of storage that can be expanded with microSD.
For taking pictures, it has a 13MP f/2.2 main camera while the front gets a larger than normal 8MP shooter that’s enhanced with a suite of selfie beautification features. Despite having a larger 2,600mAh capacity battery, the Desire 820 is only 7.74mm thick and it weighs 155 grams. In addition, the Desire 820 variant for Malaysia (Desire 820s) has dual-SIM slots and it also supports 4G LTE.
If you’re looking for something cheaper, the Desire 620 appears to offer a decent entry-level offering at a lower price point. It is available in 2 variants – Desire 620 that runs on a Snapdragon 410 processor with 4G and a Desire 620G which runs on MediaTek’s 1.7GHz MT6592 Octa-Core processor, that’s similar to the Redmi Note. Which ever you choose, it gets a 5″ HD 720p display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage that also accepts microSD card for expansion.
Camera wise, it gets a 8MP main camera and a front facing 5MP shooter. Keeping the lights on is a decent 2,100mAh capacity battery. Both models will support dual-SIM and they also come with HTC’s famed BoomSound front firing stereo speakers. The only difference is that the Desire 620 with the Qualcomm processor has an added advantage of 4G connectivity. In Taiwan, the Desire 620 is priced at 6,990 TWD (about RM770) while the Desire 620G carries a 4,990 TWD (RM550) price tag, making it quite affordable for the specs it offers.
So far there’s no details of its exact launch date but we reckon it could be happening either late this month or early next year.
