Xiaomi Mi 4 with FDD-LTE is now official. 4G model that works for the rest of us

The Xiaomi Mi 4 which was launched 6 months ago is finally available with 4G FDD-LTE support. Prior to this, the Mi 4 was only available in 3G (WCDMA), 3G (WCDMA + CDMA) and 4G (TDD-LTE) variants. For those who managed to get a unit locally had to settle for the 3G version.

The Mi 4 FDD-LTE (Unicom version) is priced at 1,999 CNY for 16GB which is about RM1,129 in our local exchange rate. At the moment, it isn’t available with 64GB of on-board storage. It will be going on sale in China on 16th December and there’s still no word of its international availability. For those craving for a 4G handset, the Redmi Note 4G is the only option right now and it is going on sale today for RM589.

To recap on the specs, the Xiaomi Mi 4 features a 5″ Full HD display and it runs on a high-end 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM. The on-board storage is non-expandable like the previous Mi 3. For imaging, it gets an improved 13MP f/1.8 camera whil the front has a 8MP f1.8 shooter for selfies. The Mi 4 has a better build with a metal frame and this time, they have also included an infrared blaster at the top. The battery is slightly higher in capacity at 3,080mAh and it also supports quick charging that can charge from 0 to 60% in one hour. You can read more about it in our announcement post.

For us Malaysians, we probably might need to wait a while for Xiaomi to bring in this device officially but we can probably count on grey importers if you plan to get one earlier. For 6 months, the wait is very long especially when there are other affordable high-end 4G handsets such as the Meizu MX4, Honor 6 and ASUS PadFone S.

You can see how does the Mi 4 stacks up against today’s flagship models in our high-spec smart phone comparison.
