For those looking for an entry-level smart phone, the Acer Liquid Z500 is priced at RM499 and from the looks of it, could give the cheap and cheerful Honor 3C some serious challenge. All 3 are currently running on Android 4.4 KitKat. Read on to find out these new smart phones
If you’re looking for a 4G LTE smart phone under RM1,000, the Liquid X1 stands out as a capable candidate. It gets a large 5.7″ IPS display that pushes a HD 720p resolution of 1280×720. Powering this phablet is a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek processor that’s mated to 2GB of RAM, which is similar to the Redmi Note (Dual-SIM 3G version). On-board, Acer is generous enough to pack 16GB of storage which can be expanded via microSD.
For imaging, the Liquid X1 has a 13MP f/1.8 camera at the back, while selfie shots are handled by its 2MP wide angle front camera. Knowing that taking a selfie in a single hand can be tough with a 5.7-incher, there’s an AcerRapid Key at the back which lets you take the shot with a push of a button. Keeping the lights on is a 2,700mAh capacity battery and overall it weighs 160 grams and has a thickness of 8.5mm.
In addition, Acer is also throwing extra features including AcerExtend which lets you mirror your smart phone remotely on your desktop and there’s a BYOC (Build your own Cloud) solution that lets you sync your files back to your main computer. There’s Acer Float which lets you run multiple apps in resized windows for better multi-tasking.
Next is the Acer Liquid Jade that’s priced at RM799. It gets a 5″ HD 720p display and it runs on MediaTek’s 1.3GHz MT6582 Quad-Core processor. Like the Liquid X1, it also gets 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Also retained is a 13MP f/1.8 camera which comes with a fast 0.3 seconds auto focus. For front shots, it also gets a 2MP camera. Juicing up the Liquid Jade is a 2,100mAh capacity battery. The Liquid Jade is quite thin at 7.5mm and it feels even thinner in the hands as the back curves gradually towards the sides.
Targeting the entry-level segment is the Liquid Z500 which offers a decent 5″ HD 720p display and it also runs on a MediaTek 1.3GHz MT6582 Quad-Core processor that’s mated with 2GB of RAM. At RM499, this competes head on with the popular Huawei Honor 3C but Acer is packing more with a generous 16GB of storage. For cameras, it also get a similar 8MP f/2.0 + 2MP combo and powering it is a 2,000mAh capacity battery. The Liquid Z500 is also a dual-SIM device that supports 3G connectivity.
For those that subscribes to more than 2 telcos and if the current dual-SIM offering isn’t enough, Acer will be bringing the Liquid E700 that comes with 3 SIM card slots. It will be available in the next 2 weeks and it carries the price tag of RM699. Spec-wise it is similar with the Z500 with a 5″ HD 720p display and it is also powered by a 1.3GHz Quad-Core MediaTek processor with 2GB of RAM and has 16GB of storage. For imaging it gets a 8MP f/2.0 main camera and for brighter selfies, the front 2MP comes with a front facing LED flash.
