Samsung had officially announced yet another device to their HUGE Galaxy family tree. This new upcoming model would be the Galaxy Grand Prime, supposedly taking over its predecessor the Galaxy Grand 2 with the ability of taking group selfies in mind.

The Galaxy Grand Prime highlights a 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera that claims to be “best-suited to capture” group selfies. This is the largest front facing camera to date and as comparison, the Galaxy Note 4 front camera is a 3.7MP shooter. The rear meanwhile is fitted with an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash that’s capable to recording video up to 1080p.

Despite its “Prime” name, the Galaxy Grand Prime appears to be a notch below its current Galaxy Grand 2 that came with a 5.2″ HD 720p display. Instead, it features a smaller 5.0″ display with a modest 960×540 pixels resolution.

As for performance, the Galaxy Grand Prime will be packing a 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory that’s also expandable with microSD. It will also run on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, skinned as their own TouchWiz UI. As for connectivity, it will have be standard 3G with dual-SIM slots, Bluetooth, and GPS but it lacks NFC. With a 2,600 mAh battery on-board, the Galaxy Grand Prime is 156 grams and is 8.6mm thick.

Sales should be commencing this week, starting in India. It will be coming to Malaysia too as it was recently certified in our local SIRIM database. It will set you back around US$250 (about RM821), and there are probably better options to choose from apart from this, such as the Sony Xperia C3 and Xiaomi Mi 3.
