For those who need to stay connected in the harshest environment, the CAT B15Q could be the answer you’re looking for. It is water and dust resistant at IP67 rating and shock proof as well with MIL SPEC 810G rating. This lets you submerge the device up to 1 metre under water and it can withstand drops up to 1.8 metres.
Spec-wise, the B15Q is quite mediocre with a 4″ display that does 800×480 and runs on a 1.3GHz Quad-Core MediaTek processor mated to 1GB of RAM and has 4GB of on-board storage. It also gets a 5MP camera with assisted flash, front facing VGA camera, microSD expansion slot and a 2,000mAh capacity battery. Interestingly it runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.
If you’re using this at the construction site, the B15Q comes with dual-noise cancellation mics for clearer conversations. It is also usable in extreme weather conditions as well with an operating temperature of -20°C to 55 °C. CAT is making this device globally available but there’s still no info on its price currently. Alternatively, you can build a rugged device on your own by getting a water resistant device and pairing it with an Otterbox case.
