Cameras on smart phones are getting better each year. Apart from having bigger pixel counts, manufacturers have started to put more emphasis on pixel size, sensor size and optical image stabiliser as well. So far, Samsung has yet to utilise an Optical Image Stabiliser on its compact smart phone (with exception of the bulky S4 Zoom).

To step up their game, Samsung has announced a new 13MP camera sensor which boast superior OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) with a correction angle of 1.5 degrees as opposed to typical correction angle of 0.7 degrees. Basically a bigger correction angle allows more compensation to unwanted movements while shooting a picture. In addition, the new sensor promises lower power consumption and 8 times better low light performance than standard smart phone camera sensors. The new 13MP shooter is expected to debut with Samsung’s 2014 flagship models.

If you haven’t seen it yet, do check out the camera comparison of the current 3 latest smartphones here and here.
