Luxury phones, we don’t get them. Why do people find the need to spend so much money on a device that is overpriced and outdated. It’s not like luxury phones are like luxury cars. With luxury cars you get the most advanced technology crammed in a car enveloped with the finest materials and craftsmanship.
With luxury phones you get old-gen tech be-speckled with tiny diamonds and wrapped with exotic materials like leather and gold.
Case in point in this TAG Heuer LINK, the world’s first luxury Android smartphone. The “Swiss-engineered, French-built” LINK runs Android 2.2 and comes with a 3.5-inch Gorilla Glass screen, a 1Ghz processor and a 5MP rear camera. There’s no mention in the press release if the processor is dual-core or if the 5MP camera will shoot HD videos. And that’s all we know about the LINK.
But to be fair, as far as smarphones go, the LINK is one of the most advanced — and we’re using the term very loosely here.
What makes the LINK luxurious is its construction materials. Some of the exotic components that make the device include diamonds, rose gold and a special surgical-grade, hypoallergenic, mirror-polished, fine-brushed stainless steel. On top of that you have an option of calfskin, alligator or lizard skin coverings.
TAG Heuer says the LINK is shockproof with the body of the device design to be as tough as a TAG Heuer watch.
If all this tickles your fancy. The LINK can be yours for a a cool US$6,700 or about RM20,100 based on today’s exchange rates. Again we’re asking, what’s the point?
