HTC Merge – QWERTY slider world phone

Remember when we posted earlier that HTC and Verizon are working together on a World Phone? This turns out to be HTC Merge that supports both GSM and CDMA. Android Central had a hands on with the new device and had posted a review for it as well.

Firstly the Merge is a QWERTY Slider phone and it doesn’t use the pop-up hinge mechanism found on the latest Desire Z. It is reported to be powered with a 800MHz processor, an odd numbered 363MB of RAM and 1.3GB of internal memory for storage. Although it uses only 800MHz, the benchmark test proves that it performs better than the 1GHz running Nexus One.

Operating system wise it is running the latest Android 2.2 Froyo. It also spots a 3.7″ Super LCD screen. When compared to the Droid 2, both had similar dimensions but the Merge is slightly thicker.

We would like to stress that this is still a prototype device that they are reviewing and the name may be changed ahead for launch.

Check out the benchmark test video after the jump.
