Dell Streak: November launch in Malaysia, not going to happen

Earlier, we picked up a Reuters report quoting a certain Mr. Steve Felice, who happens to be the president of Dell’s small and medium business unit, who said that the Streak will only be entering APAC markets in the first quarter of next year.

But on the other hand we’ve got the official Twitter account for Dell Malaysia telling us that the Streak could be here as early as November. So who are we to listen to? Is the Reuters report inaccurate or did Dell Malaysia somehow miscommunicated the launch period for the Streak?

As it turns out Dell Malaysia might have gotten the launch period for the Streak mixed up. We’ve received official email from a representative of Dell PR confirming that the Streak will come to APAC next year and not in November as earlier mentioned.

It’s a bummer that those who are interested in the Dell Streak will have to wait at least another four months for the Streak to hit APAC, a Malaysian launch would probably take longer. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Malaysia will be amongst the first markets in APAC to get the Streak.

But on the other hand, this could be a blessing in disguise. As you already know the Streak is currently running the super old Android 1.6. Although running Android 1.6 the Dell Streak sill manages to look snappy and responsive in the videos that we’ve seen, the archaic OS is not going to cut the mustard against iPads running on iOS 4.2 and Samsung Galaxy Tabs running on the latest and greatest Android 2.2. A later APAC launch could mean we might be getting, at the very least, Android 2.1.

Let’s hope that this will be the case.
