The Samsung Galaxy A series aims to deliver an affordable premium experience for the masses. Now they have just introduced its latest member, the Galaxy A8.
At 5.7 inches, it has the same screen size as the Galaxy Note series and it is also Samsung’s thinnest smart phone at only 5.9mm. The Galaxy A8 is officially launched in Malaysia at RM1,888 and we’re getting the 32GB storage option along with dual-SIMs supporting 4G LTE.
The front Super AMOLED display pushes a Full HD 1920×1080 resolution which is pretty decent and powering this slender device is a Samsung Exynos 5430 Octa-Core processor (4x 1.8GHz + 4x 1.3GHz) that’s mated with 2GB of RAM. While it is a dual-SIM device, the secondary slot is a hybrid one where it allows you to insert a microSD card for memory expansion. For taking pictures, it gets a 16MP f/1.9 camera that’s similar to the Galaxy S6 but without Optical Image Stabilisation and selfie shots are handled by its 5MP front unit. Another welcome addition is its larger 3,050mAh capacity battery which is a step up from the former 2,600mAh capacity unit on the Galaxy A7.
The overall design is a nice progression from its former Galaxy A series as it adopts some elements from its current Galaxy S6 flagship and carries the same processor as the Galaxy Alpha. The metal frame feels more refined with some chiseled edges, while the home button gets a fingerprint sensor which allows you to launch the camera instantly when you double tap. Out of the box, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with its custom TouchWiz interface on top, which you can customise with its variety of themes available.
The Galaxy A8 is available now and it comes in 3 colours – Gold, White and Black.
