The Pebble might be basic, but its functional and long lasting battery life has proven to be a hit with over 1 millions sold so far. That’s more than double of what it had sold until March 2014. One of the main driving factors is undoubtedly its competitive price slash which has made it appealing for the masses.

Despite having a monochrome 144×168 e-paper non-touch display, the Pebble smart watch has evolved tremendously with its own official appstore, support for always-on fitness tracking and Android Wear notification. At the moment, they have 6,000 apps and watch faces that are built by nearly 25,000 developers worldwide.

For 2015, Pebble will face great challenges as the Android Wear players would be releasing their 2nd generation of devices and Apple’s entry into the smart watch game in April. To keep up wih the times, Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky shared that they will be introducing new products this year along with a new software platform that has yet to be seen on smart watches. He added that they have found a new framework which they would be using as an interaction model on the watch. While apps would continue to exist, they won’t be the main focus on the platform.

Since it had launched Pebble Steel early last year, they had hired some members from the LG’s webOS TV team for the purpose of building its next generation of smart watches. Migicovsky didn’t reveal too much of its new device but it looks like they are targeting to announce the new lineup towards the 2nd half of this year.

At the moment, the Pebble watch is going at US$99 (about RM358) while its Steel edition is priced at US$199 (about RM720). They do accept international orders and they ship to Malaysia for free via Standard Mail.
