Another submarine cable is having some problems right now which will affect a large number of internet users in Malaysia. This time it is the South East Asia–Middle East-Western Europe (SMW4) link that connects South East Asia to Europe via the Middle East.

As a result, TM Unifi and Streamyx users would experience slower performance while browsing sites and connecting to servers hosted in Europe. To minimise the impact, TM says that they are rerouting traffic to other alternative submarine links for the time being.

So far they have not given any timeline on its restoration works. A few months back, the AAG link between Asia and US had a similar issue that had crippled the internet experience for most people. That took about 3 weeks to restore. Let’s hope this gets resolved quickly.
