Maybank has expanded its overseas digital retail footprint by integrating its flagship MAE app with Alipay+, enabling cross-border QR payments across eight key overseas destinations.
Backed by PayNet’s cross-border network, the addition extends the bank’s international “Scan & Pay” corridor beyond its established ASEAN base in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia to mainland China, South Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Laos.
How to use MAE Scan & Pay with Alipay+?

You can make payments directly through the MAE app’s existing “Scan & Pay” function without downloading a separate app or registering for an Alipay+ account.
First, you need to launch the MAE app, select the QR function to scan the AliPay QR or merchant’s code and key in the purchase amount in the foreign currency.
Before confirming, the app displays the bill alongside the converted Ringgit deduction for transparency. If the transaction exceeds RM250, you need to authorise the charge and shows the confirmation screen to the merchant as proof of payment.
Maybank Global Access Account-i gets additional currencies
Alongside the QR rollout, Maybank plans to expand its multi-currency offering through the Maybank Global Access Account-i.
By December 2026, the bank will add five currencies: the Chinese Yuan, Thai Baht, Indonesian Rupiah, Vietnamese Dong and Cambodian Rie, bringing the total to 23 supported foreign currencies.
The cross-border QR payment service is active immediately for MAE users traveling across all eight supported markets.
Surging outbound transactions
As of September 2026, Maybank recorded an almost 80% year-to-date increase in total cross-border transactions compared to the prior year.
Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, Group CEO of Community Financial Services at Maybank, said the integration with Alipay+ provides customers greater flexibility when traveling abroad.
“This demonstrates strong customer adoption and the growing role of QR payments in consumer spending,” he said, adding that the initiative is supported by Payments Network Malaysia’s (PayNet) cross-border payments infrastructure.
