GWM Malaysia has expanded its flagship luxury MPV line-up with the introduction of the new GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV. The rollout of the hybrid variant might help boost the brand’s reach in the segment further, especially now that there are more than 2,000 Wey G9 Hi4 PHEVs on our roads.

GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV Malaysia Pricing, Launch Package

The new GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV is offered at a retail price of RM249,800, which is RM20,000 less than its PHEV twin that retails at RM269,800.

To mark the launch, GWM Malaysia is offering an introductory package that includes promotional financing rates starting from 0.08% through selected participating banks, RM5,000 in trade-in support, and a 5-year free maintenance package covering both parts and labour valued at RM11,200.

GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV Malaysia Colourway, Warranty

For exterior styling, the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV is available in three colour choices, which are Aurora White, Wisdom Grey, and Nebula Black.

The Wey G9 Hi4 HEV is covered by a 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty alongside a separate 8-year / 180,000km warranty for its high-voltage battery, electric drive motor, and electric motor control unit. Customers also get to enjoy 5 years of complimentary Vehicle Telematics Service and a GWM-branded Touch ‘n Go RFID tag.

GWM Wey G9 Hi4 HEV Quick Specs

In terms of physical dimensions, the Wey G9 HEV is said to be identical to its PHEV twin.

Being a 5,050mm long, 1,985mm wide, and 1,900mm tall MPV, the Wey G9 is longer and wider than the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Dimensions aside, GWM said that the new PHEV can provide 233L of luggage space when the rear seats are up, but can be expanded up to 1,725L.

Equipped with GWM’s electronically controlled Hi4 all-wheel drive system and 4-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, the Wey G9 HEV is powered by a 235hp (175kW) 2.0L turbocharged hybrid engine that is paired with a 107hp (80kW) electric motor that also produces 170Nm of torque.

Completing the hybrid powertrain is a rear-mounted 181hp (135kW) electric motor with 232Nm of torque, as well as a 1.67kWh ternary lithium battery and a 58L fuel tank. The combined system output is capable of delivering 353hp (263kW) and 782Nm of torque.

The MPV can hit 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 190km/h. Under the NEDC testing cycle, GWM claimed that the hybrid setup can achieve a fuel consumption rating of 6.5L per 100 km and a total driving range of up to 845 km.

Inside the cabin, the 7-seater MPV features a 2+2+3 layout lined with premium Nappa leather across the 1st and 2nd rows as well as leatherette seats for the 3rd row. Styled in a black interior theme with a grey roof headliner, the 1st and 2nd row occupants also get massage and ventilation functions.

The driver cockpit and cabin technology include a 14.6-inch main infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display (HUD), and a digital rear-view mirror. Connectivity and entertainment features encompass wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50W wireless charging pad, and a 21-speaker audio system.
