The Volvo EX90 is now locally assembled (CKD) at Volvo Car Manufacturing Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam. Unlike the original fully imported (CBU) version, the CKD EX90 brings substantial upgrades across the board, including higher performance, enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and faster DC charging speed.

The Volvo EX90 CKD is offered exclusively in the 7-seater Ultra Twin variant featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. It is priced at RM428,888, non-inclusive of insurance. For context, the CBU version launched last April at RM442,888, meaning the CKD model represents a direct price reduction of RM14,000.
Early adopters can save even more, as the first 100 customers will receive a launch cash rebate of RM25,000, bringing the price down further to RM403,888. These early bird buyers will also receive a complimentary Volvo AC wallbox charger valued at RM3,990.

The locally assembled SUV is available in five exterior shades: Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and Mulberry Red. Inside, the cabin features Nappa leather upholstery, with options for Charcoal Nappa paired with Light Ash trim, or Cardamom Nappa paired with Brown Ash trim.
Every EX90 CKD is backed by a 5-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, alongside a separate 8-year or 160,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery.
Volvo EX90 CKD vs CBU: What’s the difference?
Beyond the reduced price tag, the EX90 CKD introduces significant hardware upgrades over its CBU predecessor. At the heart of these changes is a new 800V architecture that increases the peak DC fast charging rate from 250kW to 350kW, trimming 10% to 80% charge times down from 30 minutes to just 22 minutes.
AC charging remains unchanged at 11kW, requiring roughly 10 hours for a full charge via its 106kWh (103kWh usable) NMC battery pack. WLTP-rated range stands at 617km, which closely aligns with the CBU model’s 623km rating.
Performance receives a substantial boost as total output climbs from 380 kW (510hp) to 500 kW (671hp). This extra power drops the 0 to 100 km/h sprint time to 4.2 seconds—down from 4.9 seconds in the CBU model—despite peak torque being slightly lower at 870Nm compared to the previous 910Nm.
Top speed remains electronically capped at 180 km/h. Under the bonnet, the central computer now utilises dual NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin systems-on-a-chip. This upgraded processing power enables expanded ADAS functions, including Emergency Stop Assist (ESA), enhanced automatic emergency steering in pitch-dark conditions, and Park Pilot Assist for parallel parking.
What else do you need to know about the Volvo EX90 CKD?
In terms of design, the EX90 shares the clean Scandinavian design language seen on the smaller EX30, featuring a closed front grille and C-shaped taillights. Its signature design element is the dynamic Thor’s Hammer daytime running lights, which physically retract at night to reveal high-definition pixel headlights.
The vehicle footprint is surprisingly large, measuring 5,037mm long and 1,964mm wide with a 2,985mm wheelbase, making it both longer and wider than the XC90.
Practicality remains a strong point for the interior. Boot space measures 310 liters with all three rows upright, but folding both rear rows flat expands cargo capacity up to 1,915 liters, a figure that includes a 65-liter underfloor compartment.
Additional storage is available upfront via a 46-liter frunk under the bonnet. The third-row seats are power-operated, while the 40:20:40 middle row offers manual slide and recline adjustments.
Inside the cabin, drivers are met with a 9-inch digital instrument cluster and head-up display, alongside a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen featuring built-in Google services alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.Audio is delivered via a 25-speaker, 1,610W Bowers & Wilkins High-Fidelity system.
Rounding out the mechanical specs, the EX90 CKD comes fitted with an active air suspension system and 21-inch 8-spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires (265/45 R21 front, 295/40 R21 rear).
