You can now buy Firsty travel eSIM through GXBank app: Here’s how

GXBank has announced a new partnership with Firsty, allowing customers to purchase the telco’s travel eSIM through the digital bank’s app. Unlike the usual route, the joint announcement said that customers are not required to download Firsty’s dedicated app if they purchase the global eSIM via the GXBank app.

While this partnership may seem to come out of nowhere, Firsty already has an existing relationship with one of GXBank’s parent companies, Grab. This is because the global eSIM telco is one of the first services available through the Partner Apps feature on the Grab app, which was announced last October.

To mark the occasion, GXBank customers can enjoy 100% cashback on their first purchase of the Firsty plan. Supported in over 150 countries, Firsty currently offers 3 plans: Free, Classic, and Unlimited, though the Free plan is not available to Malaysian customers.

How to purchase Firsty eSIM through the GXBank app

From our quick walkthrough following today’s announcement, we found that the integration between GXBank and Firsty is not yet seamless. In fact, there is no dedicated button for Firsty in the GXBank app at the moment – unlike existing 3rd party services such as car insurance, travel insurance, and Cyber Fraud Protect.

At the moment, in order to purchase Firsty through the GXBank app, you have to go into the app’s Rewards section. Over there, you’ll find a mission titled Get Your eSIM that will bring you to a screen which has the actual purchase link for Firsty eSIM.

Tap on the Buy now button and you will be brought to Firsty’s dedicated website for GXBank customers. You will then be asked to provide your e-mail address – you should use the same e-mail address that you utilise for GXBank in order to be eligible for the cashback offer.

Once you input the security code that was sent to your e-mail address, the Firsty account creation process will then begin. You will be able to purchase the Firsty eSIM plan once your account is ready, which takes just a few minutes.

Firsty eSIM Pricing Malaysia

Firsty Classic plan is a data-based offering which is valid for 30 days. The amount of data you can purchase ranges from 0.5GB up till 50GB:

  • 0.5GB: RM12.50
  • 1GB: RM22.50 (normal price: RM25)
  • 3GB: RM37.50 (RM75)
  • 5GB: RM47.50 ( RM125)
  • 10GB: RM85 (RM250)
  • 20GB: RM132 (RM500)
  • 50GB: RM245 (RM1,250)

Alternatively, there is also the Firsty Unlimited plan, which provides a 5GB daily quota at the highest speed available from partner telco in the destination country. Once the daily quota is over, the user’s speed would be throttled to 512Kbps until the next cycle.

Customers can choose to have the plan’s validity period from a day up to 60 days. Just like the Classic plan, Firsty is currently offering some discounts depending on the number of days that you choose:

  • 3 to 5 days: 10% discount
  • 6 to 15 days: 16% discount
  • 16 days and above: 20% discount

Price-wise, the Firsty Classic plan is available for RM12.50 for a 1-day plan and can go as high as RM600 (inclusive of a 20% discount) for a 60-day plan.
