If you’re using your Maybank credit and debit card via Google Pay, you can look forward to a more seamless payment experience in the next couple of weeks. Maybank has announced that Google Pay transactions exceeding RM250 will no longer require a PIN starting 27th January 2026.
However, there’s a maximum limit of RM2,500 per transaction for Maybank cards supported on Google Pay. If you wish to make a payment exceeding this amount, you’ll have to use your physical credit and debit card instead of your mobile device.
According to Maybank, credit card holders can continue to make multiple contactless transactions via Google Pay up to the card’s limit. However, each contactless transaction should not exceed RM2,500.
If you’re using Maybank debit card, each contactless transaction is capped at RM2,500 and the daily purchase limit depends on your settings. For added security, debit card users can choose to lower their Google Pay transaction limit by adjusting the debit purchase limit via M2U.
To recap, Google Pay allows you to pay at contactless card terminals by tapping your Android smartphone with your added credit and debit card on Google Wallet.
Google Pay was officially rolled out in Malaysia in November 2022 and eventually Maybank added Google Pay support in May 2024. Besides Google Pay, Maybank credit and debit cards are also supported on Samsung Pay since December 2016 and Apple Pay since August 2022.
