XPeng will locally assemble its vehicles in Malaysia starting from 2026. The local Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) assembly operation will take place at EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) facility in Melaka.

According to Bursa Malaysia’s filing made by EPMB, three models will be assembled under the new CKD agreement, including G6 and X9, as well as the Extended Range EV (EREV) version of X9. EPMB has also been given the first right of offer to assemble three subsequent future XPeng releases, including the D02 and D03, although not much is known about these new models.

The filing has also revealed that the production of G6 is scheduled to start by 31 March 2026 and is expected to end by 30 December 2027. On the other hand, X9’s assembly will kick off by 25 May 2026 and is expected to conclude in Q1 2028.

Located in Pegoh, EPMB’s plant has already churned out several vehicles since it was opened 2 years ago. Among them are the GWM Haval H6 hybrid SUV as well as the new GWM Wey G9 plug-in hybrid MPV.

Additionally, the plant has also concluded the pilot production of BAIC X55 and BJ40 last month. Not enough with that, SAIC Motor has also signed EPMB to locally assemble MG EVs, which is expected to begin sometime in Q1 2026.

Truth be told, XPeng’s plan to establish CKD operations in Malaysia is not exactly a secret. During the launch of the 2026 G6 Facelift back in October, the Group CEO of Bermaz Auto, Francis Lee has said that XPeng had completed its feasibility study for local assembly and was in the final phase of discussions with local partners.

Bermaz Auto, which is XPeng’s distributor in Malaysia, is also EPMB’s second-largest shareholder. XPeng’s upcoming local assembly operation in Malaysia will become the brand’s second CKD effort in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.
