U Mobile is now offering “Game-Grade” 5G routers on its U Home 5G wireless broadband plan. According to the orange telco, these new 5G wireless routers are built for smooth gaming, faster streaming and wider WiFi coverage.

Despite its supposedly improved performance, the two new routers options which retail for RM799 are still bundled for free on a 24-month contract.

To recap, U Home 5G is still offered at a promo rate of RM68/month and it comes with “unlimited” 5G & 4G data. However, take note that there’s a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 1,000GB.

Once you’ve hit your monthly FUP limit, you can still get connected but at a slower throttled speed of 512kbps. If 1,000GB isn’t enough, users can add on an additional 1,000GB high-speed data for RM30 via the MyUMobile app.

ZTE G5B 5G Router

For the free “Game-grade” 5G router on contract, users can choose between the ZTE G5B 5G Router as pictured above or the Huawei H153 as shown below.

According to U Mobile, these routers feature 4×4 MIMO with speeds up to 3.6Gbps, and they also support both 5G NSA (5G Non-Standalone) and 5G SA (5G Standalone). Of course, the actual download speeds are dependent on your 5G coverage. It is mentioned that users can expect a minimum download speed of 100Mbps across DNB’s 5G network.

The routers also boasts wider WiFi coverage thanks to its high-gain antenna system and it supports up to 128 connected devices. According to U Mobile, the 5G routers are also EasyMesh certified which allows users to pair any EasyMesh-certified devices to eliminate dead zones in the home.

Take note that these routers will only work with U Home 5G SIMs. This means you won’t be able to use other telco SIM or other U Mobile postpaid or prepaid SIM cards with the 5G routers.
