The MGS5 EV which starts from RM115,000 is officially launching in Malaysia on Tuesday 20th May 2025. This is MG Malaysia’s new fully-electric 5-seater SUV which competes against the Proton e.MAS 7, BYD Atto 3 and the Omoda E5.

Unlike most other electric SUVs in the segment, the MGS5 EV stands out for having a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup and it boasts up to 150kW of DC fast charging.

As revealed via their social media post, MG Malaysia is launching the MGS5 EV this Tuesday, 20th May 2025 at Mid Valley Megamall. The new EV will be displayed at the Centre Court until Sunday, 25th May 2025.

The MGS5 EV is open for bookings since 8th May 2025 and customers can secure their unit with a RM500 booking fee. As revealed during Malaysia Autoshow 2025, early bird customers who place their bookings will receive “10X More Savings” and a complimentary 7kW Wallbox charger.

The MGS5 EV will be offered in 3 options which come with two LFP battery capacities. The base COM variant is offered in 49kWh and 62kWh battery options, while the range-topping LUX is offered only with a 62kWh battery. The 49kWh battery offers a WLTP-rated range of 340km while the 62kWh version can go further with a WLTP-rated range of 430km.

Across the board, the MGS5 EV gets a single motor driving the rear wheels pushing 125kW (168hp) and 250Nm of torque. Since it offers lower power output compared to other competitors, the annual EV road tax is also cheaper at RM120 (starting 2026).

When it comes to AC charging, the MGS5 EV comes with a single-phase 7kW onboard charger. For DC, the 49kWh battery version supports up to 120kW, while the larger 62kWh unit supports up to 150kW.

The base MGS5 EV COM with 49kWh comes with 17″ wheels, fabric seats, polyurethane steering, reverse camera and four speakers. Meanwhile, the COM 62kWh version adds leather seats and 6-way power seat for the driver.

The range topping MGS5 EV LUX gets all the bells and whistles with larger 18″ wheels, rear centre armrest, wireless phone charger, rear reading lamp, rain sensing wiper, 360-degree surround view camera, power tailgate with kick sensor, panoramic sunroof and 6 speakers.

Across the range, all MGS5 EV is equipped with a 12.8″ infotainment display with support for Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All three options also get the same suite of safety & MG Pilot features which include 7 airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keep assist (LKA), rear collision warning (RCW) and traffic jam assist.
