Fresh from its new deal with Kineta, Charge+ has announced yet another partnership to grow the EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia. This time around, the company has teamed up with EV Edaran to unveil the new EV charging hub at Amverton Heritage Resort in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
The new EV charging hub features a pair of StarCharge 120kW DC chargers. As each of them is equipped with 2 charging nozzles, this means up to 4 EVs can utilise the DC chargers at the same time.
In addition to that, the hub also features the ultra-slim Marvel AC charger, which was designed by Charge+ itself and manufactured by StarCharge. The presence of the AC charger allows for 2 additional charging bays, with each of them able to support an AC charging speed of up to 7kW.
At the moment, the new Charge+ x EV Edaran charging hub at the Amverton Heritage Resort has not yet opened to the public as it is still waiting for the licence from the Energy Commission (ST). Nevertheless, we were informed that the charging fee will be RM1.35 per kWh for DC and RM0.95 per kWh for AC.
Here’s why Ayer Keroh was chosen as the hub’s location
According to the CEO of Charge+, Goh Chee Kiong, Ayer Keroh was chosen as the location for the new hub because it is the halfway point between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Hence, it is an essential point for many EV owners who are travelling long distances between both cities.
Chee Kiong pointed out that there are currently only a handful of EV chargers within the vicinity of Ayer Keroh regardless of on or off the highway. Hence, the new Charge+ x EV Edaran hub may help provide additional assurance to EV owners.
Furthermore, the hub can be accessed by both northbound and southbound traffic as it is located outside of the PLUS highway. Being just 1km away from the Ayer Keroh Toll Plaza, it can be quite useful for EV owners who want to charge their vehicles first before they start exploring Melaka, since Ayer Keroh is one of the main entry points into the state.
In addition to that, Chee Kiong also said the Ayer Keroh hub is a vital point for the CPO’s 5,000km DC charging highway vision which covers Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. First announced in 2023, he said that the project is now 50% completed.
