Despite claims that they’re pulling out of the smartphone business, the Chinese manufacturer Meizu has just announced that they’re launching a brand new device in Malaysia: the Meizu 21. This flagship smartphone may not be from a brand familiar to everyone, but does pack plenty of hardware into a smartphone at a very competitive price point.

Meizu 21 Malaysia pricing and availability

The Meizu 21 will be available in two configurations:

  • Meizu 21, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM2,999
  • Meizu 21, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM3,299

Available already from the official Meizu store on Shopee and Lazada as well as selected retail partners nationwide, those of you who snag a Meizu 21 for yourself by 5 April will also get a free pair of Meizu Pandaer gaming headphones and an extra year of warranty. With a starting price of RM2,999, the Meizu 21 becomes the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphone in Malaysia, undercutting the likes of the RedMagic 9 Pro and iQoo 12.

Meizu 21 specs

The Meizu 21 originally debuted back in November last year in China, and offers a mid-sized 6.55-inch AMOLED display pushing an FHD+ resolution. This panel is also capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 1,800nits, a high brightness mode of 1,100nits and support for HDR10+. Meizu also claims that the Meizu 21 has the thinnest bezels in the world with a 1.74mm bezel surrounding the display.

Under the hood, the Meizu 21 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system-on-chip that Meizu says they’ve tuned further for additional efficiency. That gets mated to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, with Android 13 ouf of the box skinned with Flyme 10.5 over it.

In the camera department meanwhile the Meizu 21 features a triple rear camera setup with a main 200MP, f/1.7 camera that utilises the Samsung ISOCELL HP3 image sensor. That gets flanked by a 13MP, f/2.4 ultrawide shooter along with a 5MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. It’s here where you’ll also find the Dynamic Ring, an RGB ring around the bottom camera lens that will flash different colours for notifications, incoming calls, charging status and more. Rounding things off is a 32MP, f/2.45 front facing camera for your selfies.

Other features of note includes a 4,800mAh battery with 80W fast charging, stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor as well as support for WiFI 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and 5G wireless connectivity.
