Local company Lokatag has just announced a new product for the local market. Called Lokatag Pro, it is an all-in-one toll reader that reads TNG cards for toll payments, along with some extras not offered by other companies in the segment such as on-board dashcam.
According to Amtel Holdings Berhad, the product is designed to cater to the evolving needs of individual drivers.
“Lokatag Pro represents a pivotal moment in our journey, as we transcend beyond traditional hardware sales into becoming the first Smart Mobility Services provider in the region,” says Chester Koid, Group CEO of Amtel Holdings Berhad. “We are ushering in a new era of automotive accessories, where safety, innovation and connectivity converge seamlessly into one intelligent platform known as the ‘Loka Ecosystem'”.
The Lokatag Pro uses infra-red technology from Efkon and supports both traditional and new TNG NFC cards. Users ccan easily reload the NFC cards with their smartphones and activate PayDirect for seamless roll deduction from their TNG ewallet.
Also on board is a dashcam for extra safety and security, recording using the Sony IMX336 sensor that captures up to 2K resolution videos. Amtel has added an AI Voice prompt feature on the Lokatag Pro that provides real-time updates on card balances and other alerts, available in three languages – Bahasa Melayu, English and Mandarin. There are also future updates where the Lokatag Pro will play back voice reminders for upcoming insurance payment dues.
There is also an automotive e-sim packaged on-board for connected services such as GPS Tracking, real-time alerts, cloud remote control/access and over-the-air (OTA) updates for the Lokatag. Amtel said that the eSIM is free for the lifetime of the product. Meanwhile, built-in G-sensors in the device helps to monitor the vehicle and alert owners of suspicious activities via notifications, as well as geo-tagging the incidents for evidence.
Lokatag aims to onboard 500,000 users within the next three years as part of the Loka Ecosystem.
At the same time, Lokatag announced that it is working together with Zurich Malaysia as the insurance partner’s commitment to risk mitigation and customer well-being. The partnership is to enhance and automate motor insurance and takaful claims processes via the Loka App, which was also introduced at the launch event. With every preorder of the Lokatag Pro, Zurich will be providing a free car insurance coverage package. Amtel and Zurich will be sharing more information on the free car insurance package soon.
The Lokatag Pro can be preordered from the official website now for RM1,799 via the preorder button. As a comparison, the standard Lokatag meanwhile costs RM499 on their official Shoppe store. First deliveries of the Lokatag Pro are expected to happen sometime in March.
The Lokatag Pro combines many things into one, and I feel that it makes it a jack-of-all-trades, and a master-of-none. I don’t feel it is a worthy buy for most people, but if you are looking for an all-in-one solution for dashcam, SmartTAG or remote care monitoring, this might be for you.
