Legendary trading card game Magic: The Gathering is back with its final standard set release for the year: Lost Caverns of Ixalan. It sees the game return to the plane of Ixalan, a world inspired by ancient Mesoamerica that’s full of jungles, beasts and unknown treasures.

In particular, Lost Caverns of Ixalan follows the events of the Phyrexian invasion and explores Ixalan in a world after the disappearance of the fabled Immortal Sun. A new resource called cosmium causes the various groups and civilisations of Ixalan such as pirates, dinosaurs, vampires and merfolk to scramble into Ixalan’s vasts and previously unknown caves underground. There, they find not just a new world, but a new inner Sun altogether called Chimil. Fan favourite former planeswalkers Huatli and Saheeli are also on Ixalan, which they have since made their new home.

This set also sees three new mechanics for players to mess around with: Descend, Craft and Discover, while previous mechanics such as transforming dual faced cards and Explore return for Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Fans of the Commander format can try them all out in four new preconstructed decks for the format, each of which are themed around the four kindreds of Ixalan: dinosaurs, merfolk, vampires and pirates. You’ll also of course find the standard selection of set boosters, collector boosters, draft boosters, prerelease kits, bundles and gift bundles on sale.

Meanwhile, if you’re into collecting the special art cards, collector booster packs will feature extremely rare Cosmium Neon Ink cards, as well as various art treatments such as Mesoamerican themed cards as well as travel poster styled full art basic lands.

On top of that, if you’re a fan of the Jurassic World movies then you’re in luck, as this set also sees the release of new Universes Beyond cards that has your favourite characters from the movie such as Ellie and Alan, Tyrannosaurus and Ian Malcolm all reimagined as Magic: The Gathering cards. They will be available in set boosters, collector boosters and some Secret Lair drops.

Lost Caverns of Ixalan will be fully available from 17 November 2023 onwards, with prerelease kits and events already on sale and happening all across game stores in Malaysia. For more information on this latest set, you can click here to visit the Magic website.
