Oppo has launched their latest smartphone in Malaysia, the Oppo A79 5G. Positioned as a midrange smartphone with 5G connectivity, the Oppo A79 5G also comes with a rather striking look, featuring what Oppo is calling a ‘Glowing Feather Design’.

Oppo A79 5G specs
The Oppo A79 5G features a fairly large 6.72-inch, FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. However, it is unfortunately just an LCD panel, so its peak brightness comes in at just 680nits, quite a bit lower than the AMOLED competition. There’s a layer of Panda Glass for scratch resistance too, with the device given an IP54 dust and water resistance rating.
Nevertheless, turn the Oppo A79 5G around, and you’ll find a very unique purple design, at least if you get the Dazzling Purple one; the Oppo A79 5G is also available in a more conventional Mystery Black. For the Dazzing Purple A79 5G, it even has a textured finish to give it a feather-like touch. It also weighs in at just 193g and measures 7.99mm thin.
Under the hood, the Oppo A79 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020. That comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with a microSD card slot also present for additional storage. It comes with Android 13 out of the box, skinned with ColorOS 13.1 over it. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 5,000mAh battery with 33W SuperVOOC fast charging.
In the camera department, the Oppo A79 5G comes with a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera flanked by a secondary 2MP, f/2.4 portrait camera, housed in a camera bump on the rear that Oppo says was inspired by mechanical watches, with a dual dial design and reflective texture. For selfies you’ll get an 8MP, f/2.0 front facing camera.
Other features of note include stereo speakers that Oppo claims offer up to 86% louder volume than before, a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as support for 5G, NFC, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.
