Sprint and LDP highways now accept credit and debit cards for toll payments

The Sprint and LDP (Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong) highways have started accepting contactless credit and debit cards as part of its open payment system trial. At least one lane at the toll plazas is a hybrid lane which accepts both Touch ‘n Go as well as contactless credit, debit and prepaid cards. This allows motorist to pay for tolls by tapping their Visa Paywave or Mastercard Paypass cards.

Contactless Credit and Debit card terminal at LDP Toll Plaza

According to Litrak Group, the card terminals at Sprint and LDP currently accept only Mastercard, Visa and MyDebit. Similar to MEX, you won’t be able to use your American Express (AMEX) cards for toll payments. The lane that accepts credit and debit cards will have a separate card terminal that comes with an LCD screen that displays the toll amount and status of the transaction.

Open Payment System test lane

To pay using your credit, debit or prepaid card, just look out for the test lane (MyDebit, Visa card and Mastercard) which is indicated on the signage as shown above. Based on our usage, the stored value Touch ‘n Go card is still faster as a prepaid payment card took about 1-3 seconds to process. The acceptance of more payment cards serves as a backup if you don’t have sufficient balance in your physical Touch ‘n Go card.

A total of 12 highways are expected to enable credit and debit card acceptance by September 2023 in a move to dismantle the Touch ‘n Go monopoly for highway toll payments. This means these highways will have a total of four payment options which include Touch ‘n Go, SmartTAG, RFID and credit/debit cards.

In case you missed it, we tried various contactless payment methods including Apple Pay and Samsung Pay on the MEX highway and you can check out our findings here.
