We are barely halfway through the second quarter of 2023 and there are now speculations that Samsung may launch its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Flip 5 much earlier this year. What’s interesting is that the new foldable devices could be unveiled at a different location that’s closer to its home base in South Korea.
According to some reports from Korea, Samsung is expected to have its next Unpacked event around the last week of July. The folks at Sammobile are guessing that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 may be unveiled sometime around the 25th to 27th of July. As a comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 were announced on 10th August 2022, while the previous Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 models were announced on 11th August 2021.
What’s more interesting is that Samsung’s Mobile Experience division is reportedly considering launching the two new foldable devices either in New York in the US or in Busan in South Korea. The proposal to hold the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Busan is seen as a move to support Korea’s bid for the 2030 World Expo.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to come with a larger cover display at about 3.4″. Meanwhile, the larger Z Fold 5 is said to retain the same 6.2″ cover display as its previous three predecessors. However, it will be slightly thinner, shorter and narrower thanks to thinner bezels.
Besides the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, Samsung is expected to unveil its new Galaxy Watch 6 wearables as well as a new pair of Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Tab S9 series. Samsung is currently the largest foldable mobile device maker worldwide and the competition is heating up with the likes of Oppo, Huawei and Honor introducing their foldable models outside of China this year. On top of that, Google is also launching its Pixel Fold which is expected to launch sometime in June.
