Revealed alongside the new P60 series in China a few weeks ago, the Huawei MatePad 11 2023 has been launched in Malaysia. This midrange tablet replaces its two-year-old predecessor but it’s practically the same device underneath the revised design, albeit with a useful price cut.

Just one variant of the MatePad 11 2023 is available here, offering 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and priced at RM1,799. That makes it RM200 cheaper than the 2021 model, which isn’t surprising given how much it shares with the outgoing version.
Pre-orders are open from now until April 14 and will include freebies worth more than RM800, including a Huawei M-Pencil stylus worth RM499, three months of VIP access to WeTV worth RM44.90, a Baijia food delivery voucher worth RM55 and another voucher for a detachable keyboard worth RM299 (the keyboard itself costs RM499). The MatePad 11 can be purchased online through the Huawei eStore and the official Shopee and Lazada stores.

Aside from the larger “cosmic star ring” pill-shaped camera bump at the back, the MatePad 11 2023 is identical to the 2021 model. This includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip as well as the namesake 11-inch IPS LCD display. The latter features a resolution of 2,560×1,600 pixels (resulting in a pixel density of 275ppi) and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
The cameras are also unchanged, consisting of a 13MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and autofocus, along with an 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Keeping the lights on is a 7,250mAh battery that Huawei says provides 12 hours of video playback; it also supports up to 22W of fast charging.
The MatePad 11 2023 does not have cellular capabilities, but it does feature WiFi 6, along with Bluetooth 5.1 and four speakers. It also supports a second-generation Huawei M-Pencil with latency as low as 2ms, and it can even sample a specific colour from the screen and transfer it over to a compatible Huawei phone. It appears, however, that the company has removed the old tablet’s MicroSD card slot, meaning that 128GB is all the storage you have.
The benefit of the latest model is that it runs on HarmonyOS 3.1 instead of HarmonyOS 2 on the 2021 version, although as usual, the tablet does not come with Google Mobile Services (GMS). Huawei is making it easier to work on the device with “PC-level” WPS Office software, a clone of the Microsoft Office suite, along with SuperHub file sharing with compatible PCs and phones.
