Netflix is bringing Nike workouts to your TV—just in time for your New Year’s resolutions

If you’ve been finding 101 excuses to drop your exercise plans, Netflix has just struck down one of those for you. The streaming service has announced it will soon be adding workouts from the Nike Training Club app, a delicious irony coming from a company that has birthed a generation of couch potatoes. The best part? It’s been timed perfectly, as it’s coming to your screens December 30—right around the time people start making their New Year’s resolutions.

For those not in the know, the Nike Training Club app is essentially a workout library that includes a wide variety of exercises, each differing in type, length, intensity and equipment—although the vast majority require no equipment. Nike has been steadily increasing the number of workouts led by its certified trainers, and presumably these are the ones that will be added to Netflix.

In total, Netflix will be streaming 90 yoga, strength and high-intensity workouts—which works out (geddit?) to a whopping 30 hours—all available in ten languages for all subscribers. They will be split into two batches that will be released separately; the first batch will feature five programmes, each with multiple episodes, including:

  • Kickstart Fitness with the Basics (13 episodes)
  • Two Weeks to a Stronger Core (7 episodes)
  • Fall in Love with Vinyasa Yoga (6 episodes)
  • HIT & Strength with Tara (14 episodes)
  • Feel-Good Fitness (6 episodes)

Netflix’s decision to add NTC workouts isn’t just a not-so-subtle dig at those who use its service instead of working out—it’s also a clear sign it’s gunning for rivals like Apple Fitness+. Only, instead of trying to build its own brand in the fitness space, it’s cashing in on an extremely well-known household brand.

For those who, like me, have been using the NTC app for a while now, Netflix’s new offering will certainly be appealing, especially as you’ll be able to jump straight into your favourite series to cool off—although you will probably lose all the progress you’ve built over the years by switching over.
