DNB’s 5G network now covers Kuching and Kota Kinabalu

Before the year comes to an end, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has finally turned on its 5G sites in East Malaysia. According to their latest 5G coverage map, the city of Kuching and Kota Kinabalu are now covered with 5G.

In Kuching, the current 5G coverage areas including central Kuching city, Kota Sentosa, Kampung Kenyalang Park, Metro City New Township, Petra Jaya, Bandar Baru Samariang, Sekama and Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

In Kota Kinabalu, the 5G coverage areas include the main city area, Petagas, Penampang, Donggongon, Inanam, Sepangar, Putatan, Kinarut, Taman Indah Permai and Telipok.

Under DNB’s current roadmap, it aims to achieve 40% 5G population coverage by the end of 2022 and to hit 80% by the end of 2024. After the change of administration. At the moment, only 5 telcos are offering commercial 5G services in Malaysia – Celcom, Digi, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications. Users with a compatible 5G device, supported 5G plan and residing in a 5G coverage area will be able to enjoy 5G services.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government wants to review the current 5G deployment plans via the state-owned single wholesale network. During a recent press conference, he said the plans need to be reviewed because it was not done in a transparent manner and there was no tender.
