Earlier this week, several telcos announced that they had finally signed the 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad, which meant that the likes of TM, U Mobile, Digi and Celcom were finally able to deliver 5G to users. As part of this landmark moment, Celcom has revealed that they’ll be giving users on their Mega 188 Lightning postpaid plan a massive increase to their monthly data quota.

According to Celcom’s terms and conditions, during the Celcom Postpaid 5G launch campaign, users of the Celcom Mega 188 Lightning plan will be able to enjoy up to 2TB of data a month, up from the regular quota of 120GB per month. For existing eligible users, the promotional 2TB quota will be reflected in the next billing cycle, while new eligible users will see it reflected immediately. The campaign has already begun, and will continue until further notice as issued by Celcom.

You’ll also want to be on the lookout for an SMS from Celcom notifying them that their plan has been activated with 5G services. However, if you change from the Celcom Mega 188 Lightning plan to one of their Mega Unlimited plans you will lose access to the 5G network; this also applies if you swap from any of the eligible plans to a Mega Unlimited plan.

To recap, Celcom had announced that users with compatible 5G smartphones on selected Celcom plans will be able to access 5G from 1 November onwards. You’ll want to ensure that your smartphone is on the list of supported devices as listed by DNB, and that you’re using one of the following plans from Celcom:

  • Celcom MEGA 80 Lightning
  • Celcom MEGA 98 Lightning
  • Celcom MEGA 128 Lightning
  • Celcom MEGA 158 Lightning
  • Celcom MEGA 188 Lightning
  • Celcom MEGA Family Line Lightning
  • Celcom Xpax Postpaid 40
  • Celcom Xpax Postpaid 60
  • Celcom XP Lite with M Pass
  • Celcom XP Lite with L Pass
  • Celcom Xpax Prepaid 35 (30GB High-speed)
  • Celcom Xpax Prepaid 45 (40GB High-speed)

However, you should note though that all 5G usage will be utilising your existing usage quota, so if you’re on Celcom Mega 98 Lightning for example, your 5G usage will still be part of your 50GB+10GB monthly data usage quota.
