Speaking about being effective, the DustMagnet™ 5440i is designed to capture up to 99% of more airborne dust and particles before they can settle on floors and surfaces. One way the DustMagnet™ 5440i air purifier achieves this is by utilising Blueair’s unique airflow system.
Clean air exits from the sides of the DustMagnet™ 5440i with one stream blowing forward while the other blows behind. This creates a vortex effect in the room which decreases the chances for dust particles to settle and is designed to cluster airborne dust particles.
There are two air intakes located at the top and bottom of the unit which helps to increase the cleaning effectiveness.
The air is then channelled into a pre-filter followed by a DustMagnet™ ComboFilter which is designed with Blueair’s unique HEPASilent™ technology. Both filters are electrostatically charged to attract dust and fine particles like a magnet, hence the name DustMagnet™.
Blueair says the combination of electrostatic and mechanical filtration allows the use of filters that are less dense, thus requiring less pressure to push the air through compared to traditional HEPA filters all while maintaining comparable performance. As a result, the DustMagnet™ 5440i runs quieter and is more energy efficient.
Working together, the dual air inlet and Blueair’s unique HEPASilent™ technology air filters on the DustMagnet™ 5440i is able to completely filter the air in a 359sqft (33m2) room every 12.5 minutes. In terms of Air Changes per Hour (ACH), all the air in that room would have been cleaned 4.8 times in an hour.
Besides that, Blueair’s DustMagnet™ 5440i is also certified by the United States Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) with a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) figure measured in cubic meters per hour (m3/h). A higher CADR number indicates a device has a greater capability to return clean air to the room.
As for the DustMagnet™ 5440i, it has a different CADR number for pollen, dust, and smoke at 433m3/h, 408m3/h, and 391m3/h respectively.
On the front of the DustMagnet™ 5440i, you will find an air quality indicator (AQI) which has five different colours to indicate the cleanliness of the air ranging from “Very Polluted” to “Excellent.”
According to Blueair, the DustMagnet 5440i was tested to remove up to 99.99% of SARS-COV-2 in a 1,280ft³ chamber, in 60 mins when performed under standard laboratory conditions. Therefore, actual performance may vary, and it is not proven to kill SARS-CoV-2 or prevent transmission of COVID-19.
Just next to the AQI indicator sits a row of touch-sensitive function keys. Notice the Wi-Fi indicator next to the power button which indicates the DustMagnet™ air purifier can be controlled remotely. Simply download the Blueair app for your mobile phone and you’re good to go.
