Following its global announcement of increased PlayStation 5 prices, Sony has now confirmed new pricing in Southeast Asia, including in Malaysia. Both variants of the console are RM200 more expensive than before, meaning that even the cheapest model now starts a smidge over RM2,000.

The new prices of the PS5 are:

  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with 825GB SSD – RM2,069
  • PlayStation 5 with Blu-Ray disc drive and 825GB SSD – RM2,499

Percentage-wise, the Digital Edition is 10.7% costlier than before, while the price of the disc drive model has gone up by 8.7%. That’s smack in the middle of the worldwide price increases, which range between four per cent and 23.8% for the Digital Edition. The revised figures come into effect immediately.

As for the rest of the region, they are:

  • Singapore – Digital Edition SGD669 (RM2,154), disc drive SGD799 (RM2,572)
  • Indonesia – Digital Edition 8,199,000 rupiah (RM2,475), disc drive 9,699,000 rupiah (RM2,928)
  • Thailand – Digital Edition 15,690 baht (RM1,959), disc drive 18,690 baht (RM2,334)
  • Philippines – disc drive 30,790 pesos (RM3,845)
  • Vietnam – disc drive VND15,990,000 (RM3,052)

Sony previously said that while the increases were necessary to offset the economy’s impact on its business, its main priority continues to be improving the PS5’s dire supply situation “so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers.”
