HTC Malaysia has just announced the availability of the Desire 601 mid-range smartphone with dual-SIM capabilities. The device has been available in the Malaysian market since around mid-December and sells for RM1,099.
Just like the Desire 600 that it replaces, the Desire 601 features a 4.5-inch 960×540 (about 245ppi) display and HTC’s signature BoomSound dual front speakers. The 601 is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s 4GB of storage which fortunately can be expanded with microSD up to an additional 64GB.
For shooting photos and videos, it comes with a modest 5MP back-lit f/2.0 camera which comes with a rather wide 28mm lens and shoots Full HD 1080p videos. Over at the front, there’s a VGA camera for self shots or video conferencing. Despite its mid-spec credentials, it comes with a rather generous 2,100mAh battery. Overall, the Desire 601 is 9.88mm thick and weighs a modest 130 grams.
It is worth pointing out that the dual-SIM HTC Desire 601 is a notch below its single sim variant in terms of hardware. The single SIM Desire 601 unit comes with 8GB of on-board storage, 4G LTE connectivity and runs on a different dual-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 processor.
