Fernando Alonso, known for being fast on 4 wheels, launches 2-wheeled eBike

Regardless of whether you’re a Formula One fan or not, chances are you might have heard of two-time World Drivers’ Championship winner Fernando Alonso. And if you are a Formula One fan, you might’ve seen him more often than not wearing a cap or a hat with the brand Kimoa on it, like this:

See, Kimoa is actually Fernando Alonso’s own brand. Well, former brand anyway—he sold it in August of last year but still retains 25% of the company and serves as its brand ambassador too. Kimoa is predominantly an urban clothing and lifestyle company, selling shirts, hats, shoes, accessories and the like. However, it seems as though it’s branching out of apparel now as Alonso and Kimoa have just launched a Kimoa eBike, right before the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.

Alonso, who is also known to be a huge cycling fan, has teamed up with Arevo, the company best known for its own eBike, the Superstrata. Together with Arevo, Kimoa are building each eBike made-to-measure for the rider thanks to a custom 3D-printed frame made of carbon fibre. By 3D printing each bike to order, Kimoa and Arevo are able to take into account everything from the rider’s height and leg length to their preferred cycling stance too.

“Unlike other carbon fibre bikes whose frames are glued and bolted together using dozens of individual parts and fabricated from previous-generation thermoset composite materials, the Kimoa bike frame is constructed without joints or glue for seamless strength. Its next-generation thermoplastic materials make it extremely impact resistant, remarkably lightweight, and most importantly – incredibly sustainable,” – Kimoa

Each Kimoa eBike can be further customised even more with options between a road, gravel, commuting or cruising bike type. They come in a number of colourways too such as black, white, turquoise and yellow. There’s up to 55 miles or just over 88km of range on the Kimoa eBike, and they claim that you’ll be able to fully charge it in just two hours.

Alonso launched the Kimoa eBike ahead of the Miami Grand Prix for a reason too. The Kimoa eBike will be sold at the Miami-based SimplyEV store as well as its branches across the US along with the Kimoa website. It’s available in just the US for now, and has a USD3,999 (~RM17,363.66) price tag. That’s definitely on the pricier side for commuter eBikes, but considering that each order is supposedly custom made to fit you perhaps there’s some reason behind the cost.
