Welcome to a brand new show on the channel called Trends, where we talk about what’s trending and why it matters. On today’s episode, we are talking about everything you need to know about Wordle, a viral game that gives you six chances to guess a five letter word. It got popular because people started sharing their results online as little coloured squares.

The game is quite simple. Your guesses have to be actual words. Once you make a guess, it will give you feedback on the different letters. If the letter is grey, that means it’s not in the word. If it’s yellow, that means it’s just in the wrong place. And finally, if it’s green, then you got the letter and position right. A common strategy is to try and use as many common letters as possible early on so that you can get the correct word with fewer guesses.

The game has gotten so popular that Google even made a Wordle Doodle a few weeks ago. There are also a ton of variants out right now, such as Katapat, which is the BM version of Wordle, and Lewdle, which only has certain naughty words in the word list.

Recently, the New York Times bought the game and said it will “initially” be free to play. Lots of fans are concerned about them adding a paywall in the future, so in case that happens, here are some other ways for you to play.

You can actually right-click and download the HTML file for Wordle to play it offline. You can also download this Game Boy ROM to play it on your Game Boy or whatever console that can run it. Finally, there are loads of Wordle apps available, such as Word Guess or WhatWord where you can play as many times as you want, unlike the original which only allows you to play once per day.

What are your thoughts on the new show, let us know in the comments below. And if you have any suggestions on what we can do next, do leave them down in the comments as well.
