JBL has been around for a long, long time—75 years to be exact. And as part of JBL’s plan to celebrate their 75th anniversary, JBL Malaysia are introducing two new devices under their Tour lineup: the JBL Tour One over-ear wireless headphones, and the JBL Tour Pro+ true wireless in-ear headphones. Except they’re not exactly “new” in a traditional sense, having first been revealed in a global launch back in January this year.
Nevertheless, for those looking for a new pair of noise cancelling wireless headphones, the JBL Tour One comes with JBL’s True Adaptive Noise Cancellation which detects your ambient noise to automatically adapt the amount of noise cancellation needed. You can also quickly turn off noise cancellation with the TalkThru feature, which can all be controlled with just a button and be configured via the app.
Packed with 40mm dynamic drivers with a range between 10Hz to 40kHz, they also have what JBL is calling ‘Pro Sound’ with a Smart Audio Mode, the latter of which lets you optimise the Bluetooth connection for normal listening, a music mode or for when you need low latency to watch videos in video mode. Alternatively, you can set up a custom equaliser on the JBL Headphones App to fit your own tastes.
JBL claims a up to 50 hours battery life with the Tour One, on the assumption that it’s without noise cancellation turned on. If you prefer to have noise cancellation on, battery life is halved to roughly 25 hours. It’ll take two hours to charge it from empty with the USB-C port, but with just 10minutes of charging you ought to be able to get up to 2 hours of playback still. Other features include four microphones built-in for calls as well as hands-free voice capability with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and fast pairing.
Meanwhile, those who prefer true wireless in-ear headphones may take a look at the JBL Tour Pro+. These also feature adaptive noise cancelling while coming with the adaptive ambient aware and TalkThru feature. The 6.8mm dynamic drivers come with a 10Hz to 20kHz frequency response range, and come with six built-in microphones for noise cancelling, calls and hands-free voice control with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
As for playback time, you’ll get eight hours out of it with noise cancelling off, while turning it on drops battery life to six hours. Together with the case, you will be able to get up to 30 hours of music playback in total with the JBL Tour Pro+. And just like its bigger brother, there’s a speed charge feature too allowing for 10 minutes of charging to provide an hour of playback. There are extra soft tip earbuds in different sizes in the box, along with a USB-C cable for charging though there’s Qi wireless charging too.
Pricing and availability
The JBL Tour One is priced at RM1,699, while the JBL Tour Pro+ are a fair bit cheaper at RM1,099. They are both available on JBL’s official stores on Shopee and Lazada, as well as authorised retail stores across the country. These two will likely be rivalling the two mainstays of the premium headphone and TWS market, which are Sony’s WH-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM4. Those are priced very similarly at RM1,599 and RM1,099 respectively.
