The ever popular Huawei MateBook D 15 lineup just got itself a new member. This new model is almost similar to the current configurations, with the key difference being that it has a 10th Gen Intel Core i3 processor instead. And, as part of its launch, if you pre-order it from now till the 17th of June, you could snag yourself some free gifts too.

This new model has the Intel Core i3-10110U processor underneath, and has half the RAM and storage of the other two, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also runs an Intel UHD Graphics 620, instead of the Intel Iris Xe Graphics that’s found on the 11th Gen Intel Core i5 model.

But apart from that, you are getting pretty much everything else that’s on the 2021 Core i5 MateBook D 15 models. This includes the 15.6-inch FHD IPS display, the fingerprint sensor on the power button, a 42Wh battery, and the recessed webcam. There’s also multi-screen collaboration functionality with Huawei Share.

In terms of connectivity, the MateBook D 15 Core i3 variant maintains support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. You’ll also find 1x USB Type-C port, 1x USB 3.0 port, 2x USB 2.0 ports, 1x HDMI port and a 3.5mm audio jack. It comes in just one colourway, Mystic Silver.

Pricing and availability

As mentioned earlier, it’s priced at RM 2599 on the Huawei Malaysia website. Plus, if you purchase it during its promotional pre-order period, Huawei will throw in a free backpack and mouse, worth up to RM498. Even the extended warranty that you can opt to add-on is cheaper, at RM149 for an extra year, compared to RM179 for the Intel Core i5 models.

To recap, here’s the prices of the other MateBook D models:

MateBook D 15 (10th Gen Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) – RM 2599

MateBook D 14 (10th Gen Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) – RM 3,499

MateBook D 15 (10th Gen Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) – RM 3,299

MateBook D 15 (11th Gen Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) – RM 3,899

Overall, the lower price point does seem to fit the lower specs of the new Core i3 variant. It could very well be a popular device for those needing a relatively cheap and portable machine for school or college, or indeed anyone needing a good enough laptop for day-to-day use.
