Phase 2 of the National COVID-19 immunisation program will begin from 19th April in 8 states in Malaysia. This will cover senior citizens (aged 60 years and above), people with chronic diseases such as heart diseases, obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure, and people with disabilities (OKU).

It appears that Malaysia will also start vaccinating non-citizens with similar conditions in Phase 2 based on a tweet reply made by Khairy Jamaluddin, the Minister in charge of coordinating the vaccination effort.

Jun Ishimatsu, a Japanese lecturer at a local public university, had tweeted to Khairy to find out when his friend who is also a Japanese citizen will be vaccinated. He shared that his friend is a senior and has a disease.

Khairy replied that his friend will be vaccinated under Phase 2. Phase 2 will begin on 19th April in 8 states namely Kedah, Pahang, Pulau Pinang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Terengganu and Labuan. The other states will begin a few days later.

For those who have registered earlier, you will be notified by MySejahtera at least two weeks ahead of the appointment date. This will be followed by a call and SMS reminder, 3 days before the vaccination date.

As shared by Khairy, vaccine recipients will be given the option to accept or decline the given appointment date via MySejahtera. Once accepted, individuals are responsible to turn up at the designated centre on time to avoid wastage of the vaccine.

Under Phase 2, a total of 1,741,935 individuals with comorbidity, 1,229,855 senior citizens and 115,249 individuals with disability have registered for the vaccine as of yesterday. All remaining healthy adults aged 18 years and above will get the vaccine in Phase 3 which will start next month. Malaysia is expected to ramp up its daily vaccination rate when it receives more doses on a monthly basis starting from July.

Those who haven’t register can sign up via MySejahtera, Vaksincovid.gov.my or call in at 1-800-888-828. If you have dependents at home, you can help them to register on their behalf on the latest version of MySejahtera.
