Porsche Asia Pacific and Shell have announced a new partnership that will see six Shell petrol stations along the North-South highway in Malaysia being equipped with 180kW direct-current (DC) chargers. This means that EV drivers will now be able to travel between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang without any sort of range anxiety, with 12 180kW direct-current chargers being installed to offer the highest charging capacity across Malaysia and Singapore.
Each charger will come with a pair of CCS Type 2 charging connectors, which allow individual vehicles to be charged at up to 180kW—or for a pair of all-electric vehicles to be charged at 90kW each. In an official statement, Porsche confirmed that the network will be implemented in stages, and four Shell stations will be fully equipped in the second half of 2021; another two stations will be ready by the first half of 2022.
The rollout schedule is as follows:
- Phase 1: Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), Tangkak (Johor)
- Phase 2: Jalan Ayer Hitam (Johor), Seremban (Negeri Sembilan)
- Phase 3: Simpang Pulai (Perak), Tapah (Perak)
Do note that the new network will not replace the existing EV charging networks that are already available from Shell—including the Shell Recharge 50kW fast-charge points in Singapore, or the charge points in Malaysia. Additionally, there are also 175kW high performance chargers at all Porsche Centres in Malaysia—and other designated “Porsche Destination Charging” locations.
“As electric mobility starts gaining momentum in Singapore and Malaysia, the network will enable smooth, convenient, and reliable electric road trips between the two countries. Once launched, the chargers will be available for all EVs that utilise the CCS Type 2 charging connector, which is widely used across both countries, with Porsche customers enjoying special rates at Shell Recharge.”

Plus, Porsche customers are also entitled to additional benefits at Shell stations, including HPC reservations via the mobile app, and special pricing for food and drinks at Shell Select shops.

While it is not possible to do so with current travel restrictions, Shell and Porsche are gearing up for a time when the borders will eventually reopen and commuters will be able to travel again across the two countries in a safe and more sustainable manner.”
